About The Hoot

Hello! I’m Michelle, but most people call me Hoot. Or The Hoot. Or Big Hootzen. It’s not homage to an owl obsession [I swear!] but a shortened version of my last name. I live in Portland, Oregon by way of a tiny town over the river in Washington, so I’m practically native. I’m an accountant by day, and covered in dog hair by night a lover of food 24/7. I love food. Eating it. Cooking it. Watching it. Reading about it. I’m one of those people. I haven’t started dreaming about food, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time.

I started this blog in January 2011 as a way to chronicle what I’ve been eating/cooking and the occasional pieces of life for family and friends. I do not have any formal training in cooking and baking, but practice makes perfect right?

I eat a lot. I used to be a much bigger girl. While I took myself to the gym to get back to a much healthier size, the big appetite never subsided. I’ll spare you the details about the time I ate a whole roasted chicken, eleven pieces of pizza, or won an unofficial meatball sub eating contest. It’s never pretty, but it does taste really good. As I’ve gotten older, I’m usually substituting quality for quantity. That means I’m trying one of the amazing restaurants in Portland, attempting one of the million recipes I’ve bookmarked, or eating a burrito. It happens. A lot.

So this is where I’ve come to share my food-loving journey and the occasional pieces of life. Feel free to follow along. I’m sure it’s going to taste good. Thanks for reading!
